garden harvest

"We have been having so much fun with the garden. Attached is a photo of the harvest we did when we got back from our get-away (and that's not including all that the neighbors took while we were away). Last night we enjoyed an eggplant parmesan made with eggplant, tomatoes and basil from the garden."

Evaluation, Design and Construction

  • Evaluation: We will visit your home and evaluate your yard for vegetable gardening potential, looking at sun, slope, water access and current usage.
  • Design: Working together with the client, Growing for Good will design a vegetable garden that will meet your food production needs and aesthetic interest. Gardens can be as small as 4'X4' or we can make your backyard a veritable vegetable wilderness. You can have a simple box raised bed or custom designed beds to fit your space. Choose between simple, elaborate, or no fencing at all. Growing for Good is always willing to experiment with new garden designs and ideas!
  • Construction: Growing for Good will implement the construction of your garden from start to finish. We almost exclusively use hand tools (unless we agree to move a giant boulder or take down a tree to let in more sun) and are quiet and respectful in all our work. We’ll have almost no impact on the rest of your property, and bring beauty as well as productivity to your new garden space.

Garden Maintenance

  • Spruce up, cleanup, repair: We will also work on existing gardens, cleaning up and repairing as necessary to plant for the current season.
  • Soil testing: We will test your soil and recommend amendments for optimal plant growth and nutrient value. Depending on the need, we will add organic amendments such as compost, composted manure, organic fertilizer, lime, etc.
  • Tending services: Throughout the growing season, we will attend to your garden weekly, weeding, watering, succession planting and harvesting. We are happy to work with you and share our knowledge as well!
  • Growing for others: Growing for Good offers the unique opportunity to let us grow a vegetable crop in your yard to be donated to a local food pantry of your choice, or to Gaining Ground in Concord, MA which distributes fresh vegetables to pantries and other local organizations in need. Consider sharing the bounty your yard can produce! Clients usually choose a type of vegetable to donate and Growing for Good will dedicate a small portion of your garden for this purpose.
  • Putting to bed: Using sustainable practices such as mulching, cover cropping and soil amending, we will clean up the garden from the growing season and prepare it for the following year. Your garden will sleep well under its winter blanket, ready to grow for you bountifully again in the spring.
